Biography

James L. McKie was born February 10, 1837 in Natchez, Mississippi. He came to Michigan, November 17, 1854 and began his business career in Three Oaks, as a clerk in the store of Mr. Henry Chamberlain, May 23, 1855. Later he became a partner in the business and still later was a member of the firm of McKie and Warren.
