Scope and Contents Beginning in the early 1990’s, the Kalamazoo-Pushkin Partnership was founded by Janet Ferguson after a trip to Pushkin in Russia. The city of Pushkin was in great need of supplies after the fall of the Soviet Union, and some of the later members of the group helped to get them supplies. When they met the supply crate in the town, they began to create friendships with many of the local people. In 1933 John W. Bailey was the mayor of Battle Creek. Hicks was married to James A. Hicks in Detroit on October 19, 1921. Scope and Contents In 1896, Bronson Methodist Hospital got its start when land was acquired by a group of physicians fearing Kalamazoo’s growing population would outgrow the capabilities of Borgess Hospital, the only hospital in the city at the time. The letters and postcards were all written by family members and by a David Herschfield, who was born August 12th 1898 and died in April 29th 1968, had spent time with the American Expeditionary Force from 1918-1919 during WWI.
