Biography

Club Hollywood was founded in approximately 1934 by Joseph Schensul (1898-1965). Club Hollywood was a nightclub located at 329 Portage St. Kalamazoo, Michigan, serving various spirits as well as entertaining patrons with live music, dancing, magic shows, teen nights, and other forms of leisure. The Club Hollywood building stood in downtown Kalamazoo Michigan and operated for around twenty years, from ca. 1934 until the winter of 1954 when it was shut down. Consumers Power Co. leased the building later that year.

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of a single menu printed approximately 1945 from Club Hollywood located at 329 Portage St. Kalamazoo Michigan.The outside of the menu includes the name of the restaurant as well as the words “Southern Michigan’s Smartest Dine and Dance Rendezvous” with menu and a small graphic underneath depicting a man and woman drinking and smoking. The cover is beige with black type and the top right and bottom left corners have the edges cut off deliberately....
