Biography

Also called the United Church of Christ, the Evangelical & Reformed Church was located at 803 Mills Street in Kalamazoo since 1946/7, and 610 Mills from 1920 to 1946. The Church was founded in September 1914 by Stephen Vargo and 48 others and was established through a Michigan Charter on June 2, 1915. It was one of 44 Hungarian Reformed Churches that were founded in the United States from 1891 to 1930. At that time, it was called the Magyar Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and had no official building. The 75th anniversary was celebrated on September 16, 1989. It is not known whether this church still exists.

This collection is comprised of one booklet for the 75th anniversary celebration of Evangelical and Reformed Church (Hungarian) in September 16, 1989. The Church was located at 805 Mills St in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The booklet provides a wealth of information regarding the church’s history and prominent figures in its past. It also features correspondence between congregation members that relates to the Church’s 75th anniversary.
