Galesburg Public School (Mich.)

 Organization

Biography

The Galesburg Public School began around the 1830s and its first building was a small wooden one built on a farm. The Galesburg Grammar School was most likely grades 1st through 8 as many schools at the time did not go above the 8th grade. The school was moved around a few times and moved to make room for a brick school in 1845. That school was burned by arsonists and a new school was built soon after. There is not much info known about the Galesburg Grammar school after 1894, the year the school program is from and whether the building stills stands today. It appears in 1969, a school is condemned but no info if that is the Galesburg Grammar school. In 1951 Galesburg public school was formed into Galesburg-Augusta community schools.
