The earliest photographs begin around 1870 and end at 1900. They show a variety of people, typically men or women at various ages although there are a few photographs of children. The photographs for the most part are head and shoulders portrait. Two of the children's photographs are full-size portraits. They are in sepia tone and show various hairstyles and clothing.

Scope and Contents The photograph of a tillerman of the Kalamazoo Fire Department was taken by photographer M. Reidsema of Kalamazoo, Michigan between the dates of 1891-1895. The address on the front of the photograph, 101 West Main St., indicates where the photographer had his studio as well as the time period the photograph had been taken; 1891-1895.
