Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963) was a prolific Cuban composer and pianist who showed talent for the instrument at an early age. He composed hundreds of piano pieces and songs for the concert stage as well as for theater and film. Dissatisfied with Fidel Castro’s government, he emigrated to the United States and lived there for the remainder of his life before dying of an asthma attack in the Canary Islands.
