Kelly, Eugene, 1890-1964
Biography
Eugene Kelly was born on December 17, 1890, in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1918 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where he served in the Signal Corps. He was stationed in France and Germany during and after the war. In 1929 Kelly came to Kalamazoo where he founded the E.J. Kelly Company, located at 1898 North Pitcher Street. The E.J. Kelly Company was operated independently until 1945 when the company combined with Michigan Research Laboratories. Later they merged with the Sun Chemical Corporation. Eugene Kelly became head of research for Sun Chemical, and the E.J. Kelly Company became the E.J. Kelly Division of Sun Chemical. Eugene Kelly died on May 18, 1964.
