Scope and Contents
R. H. C. Davis's bound book containing his article "A Catalogue of Masons' Marks as an Aid to Architectural History” published in 1954 in the Journal of the British Archaeological Association. Davis's title from the cover reads: "Mason Marks". The book opens with a letter dated August 1, 1956 from Rose D. Coulton. Coulton thanks Ralph Davis for the catalog of mason marks book, remarks on their travels, and expresses delight that Davis found her spouse G. G. [George Gordan] Coulton's mason marks helpful. The first page lists a bibliography followed by the printed article. The article features mason marks located on the surface of historic buildings in England and Europe. In between the printed pages are blank pages on which Davis wrote additions and corrections. At the end of the book is a two-page chart organizing mason marks by categories.
