Scope and Contents

(sold w/ The Gospels of Henry the Lion). (The earliest known complete set of illuminated playing cards, probably Lille, c.1475; the Giant Bible of St. Maximin in Trier, late eleventh-century; twelfth-century manuscripts including a missal, a Gregory the Great, and a Vitae Sanctorum from Weissenau Abbey; the only known illustrated manuscript of Andreas Capellanus on the Art of Love, Frankfurt, c.1503; English manuscripts including the Mohun Chronicle, Sermons of Michael of Hungary in a contemporary Oxford binding, the Prayerbook of Elizabeth of York, and Sermons of Henricus Herpius bequeathed to St. Stephen's Chapel, Westminster Palace, in 1492; Rouen Book of Hours with 58 very large miniatures, c.1465, and the Hours of the Cardinal de Boisy, Tours, c.1510, with 84 miniatures; single leaves and miniatures, including illuminated leaves from Boccaccio's De Casibus in Middle English and in French, and miniatures from Paris, c.1250, the Holy Land, c.1300, London, c.1390, and Zwolle, c.1470.)
