Abstract

Collections of catalogs from major international auction houses (Bloomsbury, Sotheby's and Christie's) pertaining to auctions that took place primarily in the early twentieth through the late twentieth century. The majority of the catalogs are for manuscript, book and jewelry sales, but a third collection recording auctions of a variety of other items is currently under development.

Fred Hartenstein Collection of Autographs

Abstract

Eighty signed pieces of correspondence collected by Carnegie Library (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) librarian Sophie Levin between 1900-1911, which contain the autographs of notable figures from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The collection was originally owned by the Carnegie Library, then given to Western Michigan University management professor, Dr. Fred V. Hartenstein, who donated it to Western Michigan University Libraries in 1983.

World War I German Soldiers Album Collection

Scope and Contents Collection contains three photograph albums and a scrapbook. Two photograph albums belonged to unidentified German soldiers in World War I, and contain images from approximately 1911-1918. Photograph album of Paul Hohendorn, a medical officer on the Eastern Front in World War I, with label naming Albert Borowski and a handwritten note, "Onkel, Paul im Kriegseinsatz Ost 1914/18".
