Frank Allen Bookplate Collection
Scope and Contents
The Frank Allen Bookplate Collection represents the collecting of Frank Allen, a Western Michigan University Librarian and Jasper Green Pennington, a student of Frank Allen's who was inspired by him to begin collecting bookplates on his own. Frank Allen donated his collection of handmade bookplates to Western Michigan University in 1965. He had been amassing his collection of bookplates for twenty years before his donation. Jasper Green Pennington donated his collection to Western Michigan University Libraries in 2006 with the intention that it be added to his mentor's collection.

This collection is divided into four parts or 'series': 1) The Frances Dallam Moss Design Collection of Dugald Stewart Walker Designs (a subset of the bookplates collected by Allen), 2) The Frank Allen Bookplate Collection, 3) The Mary Crease Sears Collection (another subset of the bookplates collected by Allen) and 4) The Reverend Jasper Green Pennington Bookplate Collection.

The bookplate collection is housed in 6 archival boxes (approximately 2.5 linear feet) and is divided into four parts: 1) The Frances Dallam Moss Design Collection of Dugald Stewart Walker Designs (a subset of the bookplates collected by Allen), 2) The Frank Allen Bookplate Collection, 3) The Mary Crease Sears Collection (another subset of the bookplates collected by Allen and 4) The Reverend Jasper Green Pennington Bookplate Collection.
