Custodial History

A former student of Western State Teacher’s College (WSTC) apparently created this scrapbook. It is unknown when the materials were collected or when it arrived at the Archives. Also unknown is who the student was. It is likely, however, that the student was female based on the content.

Physical Description

The scrapbook is a bound volume with newspaper clippings, photographs, booklets and brochures, and programs glued to the pages. Although the scrapbook lacks a definite date range, the materials suggest that the student created it between or after 1928 to 1930. The newspaper clippings cover a variety of events held on campus during the period, though it is not known what publications the student cut them from. The photographs cover two areas. Some are personal and others are of former buildings of what is now East Campus – East Hall, North Hall, and West Hall. Some photos show events being held at WSTC. Other items include booklets from the Women’s League and from First Methodist Church and First Baptist Church offering activities for students, programs for events at WSTC, and brochures for new student orientation.

The front cover is detached from the rest of the scrapbook. The pages have yellowed considerably and have become brittle to the point that turning a page can cause them to crack along the spine. The items glued to the mages remain in place and appear to be in no danger to becoming detached. The brochures, programs, and newspaper clippings are uniformly in good condition. The scrapbook suffered water damage at some point along the outer edges of its covers and pages.
