Scope and Contents
Oral history speeches and honors given at Robert R. Russel’s 100th birthday celebration conducted on September 29, 1990. Introduction by Lewis Carlson. Opening words by Ron Davis, Chair of History. Honors and recognition by Al Castel. Speeches given from Robert W. Johanson from the University of Illinois, James Dodson from McPherson College, Al Castel of University of Kansas, and Philip Denenfeld of WMU on behalf of form WMU President Dr. Haenicke. Each speaker highlights the impact of Dr. Russell’s dissertation, “Economic Aspects of Southern Sectionalism, 1840-1861”; his impact on the faculty and students of WMU’s History Department; and his contribution to Civil War history. Robert Russell gave the closing remarks.
