Slides, part 1
Scope and Contents
The sub-series is composed of 2.0 cubic feet of slides taken by Dr. Peter Schmitt (1936-2008)
primarily for his Popular Art and Architecture course which he taught for the Department of
History at Western Michigan University where he worked from 1965 to 2008.
The slides were either taken by Dr. Schmitt or produced for him via a copy stand. They cover a
variety of architectural styles mainly Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne.
There are a number of Kalamazoo letterheads including ones that have buildings incorporated in
them. The architecture comes not only from Kalamazoo but other cities in the State and the
Nation. Also included are images from various American artists which were covered in class.
When reviewing these slides, it is important to look at all the sheets because many times the
identification does not correctly illustrate what is there.
