Scope and Contents

This record group consists of various records of the Kalamazoo County Clerk for the years 1845-1930. The record group includes: census of Kalamazoo County (1884, 1894, schedule 1 only), schedule of free inhabitants of Kalamazoo County, volume for 1884 is for Pavilion and Wakeshma townships only; list of persons whose usual place of abode was, upon the 1st day of June 1880, within the county of Kalamazoo (1880); statement of medical practitioners (1886-1903, 1894-1900); record of soldiers discharged from the service (1862-1865); minutes of the Board of Review (1898-1910), relating to the Board's review and alteration of assessment rolls; ledger of expenses for poor (1871-80, 1894-1930), including records relating to the operation of the poorhouse; index to record of marriages (1833-1919), offering name of bride and groom, number of book and page; and record of inmates of the poorhouse (1885-1912), offering name, age, sex, residence, nationality, date of receipt at facility, on whose order received, date and cause of discharge, cause of pauperism, whether blind, mute, epileptic, idiotic or insane, and remarks relating to the disposition of the body if deceased.
