Scope and Contents

The teacher in the photo is Eustace Pier, he was born in Leonidas in 1895 and was employed at a public school teacher in Leonidas his entire life. The students in the photo, whose names are legibly written on the back, are Clark Carlisle, Lester and Norman Lyon, Ruth and June Taylor, Dorothy Bennett, Rhea and Jimmie McEwan, Parker Botzner, Marjorie Nichols, Wilbur Tutweiler, Laverne Harmen, Lucile Tomilson, Gladys Kelly, and Hattie Bohstadt. They were all born between 1905-1913.

Physical Description

This collection is .05 cubic feet. The photo card is 7 inches by 5 inch in size, with each of the twenty-four individual photos being 1 inch by 1 inch.

The photo card shows twenty-four individual sepia tone photos, one of the teacher, twenty-two of students, and one of a slate with the words “Leonidas School” written on it. The photo is in decent condition. One small corner is torn off and there is some water damage on the back and across some of the student’s pictures. A piece of paper with a list of names of the people in the photo is taped to the back of the photograph. There is no date on the photo but based on the ages of the children in the photo it was most likely taken sometime between 1915 and 1920.

Provenance

This collection consists of one class photo of the teacher and twenty-two students in Leonidas School. It is not known exactly when the photo was taken but it most likely dates from 1915 and 1920.
