Scope and Contents

According to the book, State of War by Alan Clive, The State of Michigan Legislature created the Michigan Council of Defense in May, 1941 to, "...cope with defense-related community problems. The lawmakers limited the MCD's mandate largely to liaison work with federal agencies, educational efforts and the undertaking of surveys." (p. 98) The bulletins are filled with news from the federal government, instructions on what individuals can do for the war effort and examples of such activities such as participation in scrap metal drives.

Abstract

The collection is composed of bulletins published by the Michigan Council of Defense, later known as the Michigan Office of Civil Defense located in Lansing, Michigan and date from 1942-1944.

Source of Acquisition

These bulletins had been a part of A-500 Waldo Library but the collection has been broken up and many items have been created into their own collections.

Physical Description

The collection amounts to .05 cubic feet and is composed of fourteen bulletins, 9”x12”. They are each four pages and printed on all sides. The paper is very yellowed and brittle. Some of the issues have wear and tear along the edges. Photocopies have been made to use rather than the originals.
