“Harry” Civil War Letter

 Collection
Identifier: RH-A-3353

Scope and Contents

Harry goes into great detail about the pursuit of John Hunt Morgan and his Confederate soldiers who raided Ohio during June and July of 1863. By the time he writes the letter Morgan has been captured by Union troops but he does give information about what his unit did in chasing Morgan and his men. Also mentions General Shackelford and the Battle of Salienville. It is very difficult, without further information, to identify the soldier of this letter. Some searching was done looking at Ohio and Kentucky Infantry Units but no clear identification was reached.
