Scope and Contents

Harry Penny was a farmer in Allegan during these years. Not much has been found about him yet although in the 1930 census he is living in Illinois with his wife Alice. At that time both of them are 49. In 1935 he is living in Allegan and working as a farmer. The diary includes information about the weather and his daily activities which include dairy production and farm life. He does mention Alice. According to notes he also writes about his concerns over a federal government proposal to purchase his land for a preserve.

Physical Description

The collection amounts to .05 cubic feet and is composed of one diary 6” x 3 ½” x 1”. The pages are handwritten, in cursive and in ink. It is legible. The cover has some discoloration on the front and there is some wear on the back. On the front of the book are the words, “Diary 1935” in the script of the period. The book is slightly misshapen but not much to cause concern.
