Scope and Contents
Black and white and color photographs of Esther Louise Lane and class composites from her teaching career in Parchment, Michigan. Majority of the photographs are from Esther's years teaching at South Elementary and Central Elementary in Parchment, Michigan, from 1945-1980. Also included are several Christmas cards from students and a large photograph of the Western Michigan Alumni Glee Club.

Biographical / Historical
Esther Louise Lane (Wells) was born January 16, 1921 in Idaho to parents Lee S. Wells (1878-1973) and Martha Louise Hill (1884-1947). She attended and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1943. In 1945, she married Charles Willard Lane Sr. (1918-1998) from Lawrence, Michigan. Together they had 4 children: Julia Leslie, Charles Lane Jr., Timothy Lane, and Jeffrey Lane. Esther began teaching at Parchment schools in 1945, and taught early elementary at Parchment Central and Parchment South schools until her retirement in 1980. After she retired, Esther and Charles moved to Venice, Florida, where they were active members of the Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church until Charles’ death in 1998, and then Esther’s passing on September 11, 2010.

Abstract
The collection contains photographs of Esther Lane (1921-2010) and class composites from when she taught early elementary in Parchment, Michigan (1945-1980).
Physical Description
The collection amounts to 0.25 cubic feet contained in one half-sized Hollinger box with folders of portraits, personal photos, classroom photos, and class composites. The portraits vary in size, with a majority being 8 ½” x 10” and 5” x 7”. The composites are primarily 8”x10”, and individual student portraits are 1 ¾” x 2 ¼”.
A majority of the photos reference Esther’s years teaching at South Elementary and Central Elementary in Parchment, Michigan (1945-1980). Most of the photos are in good condition and a majority of the class composites have 2 copies. There are a few miscellaneous Christmas cards from students, as well as individual student portraits, all in good condition. The large photo of the WMU alumni glee club and the unidentified church choir are both in fair condition, but have crease marks and curved edges.
