The American Peat Fuel Company was started in 1903. On January 27, 1903 there was a meeting at 814 W. Cedar in the home of George E. Foote for all that were interested in starting a Peat Fuel company. The plant was located in Capac, Michigan. In December of 1903 a meeting was held in Battle Creek, where H.B. Coleman, George E. Foote, and W.W. Olin were elected to be Directors of the company. In 1905 the Peat Fuel Company signed a 2 year lease, and then following the expiration of the lease, the company would be sold to what would come to be known as the Pilgrim Paper Company.
