Scope and Contents

The collection is composed of scrapbooks, photos, newspaper clippings, genealogical research and other items connected to the Chase Sebring families ranging from the early 1880’s- the late 1960’s. The collection is roughly one cubic foot in total size.

Biographical / Historical

Juliet Chase Muller Helmsworth (1909-2000) was the only child of Helen Sebring Chase (1883-1967) and Jay Gould Chase (1880-1949). The family lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan where Juliet graduated from Western State Normal High School in 1927. Juliet Chase graduated from Fairmont School in Washington D.C. She returned to Michigan after graduation and spent time modeling. She was featured in the Detroit Times and in advertisements for Wellman’s fur coats. Chase remained socially active in Kalamazoo. In 1938 Juliet Chase married Charles F. Muller (1906-1968) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Muller attended Brown University before returning to Cincinnati. He worked as secretary treasurer of King Machine Co. The couple took a month long honeymoon traveling through New England and Canada before returning to Cincinnati. She became active in Cincinnati social activities. On October 19, 1968 Charles Muller passed away in Kentucky. On February 6, 1971 Juliet Chase Muller married Dr. James A. Helmsworth (1915-2015) in the Chapel of the Church of Advent in Cincinnati. The couple remained in Cincinnati until Juliet Chase Muller Helmsworth passed away in 2000.

Physical Description

The collection is composed of a variety of items ranging in size from 3in. x 2in. in size to 8.5in. X 11in. in size. The collection is in overall good condition. The photos range in date from c.1885-1968. All of the photos are in good condition. The coloring is still dark in the photos. Some of the photos are out of focus. The photo albums and scrapbooks are in good condition. One of the scrapbooks has a torn cover. Some of the photos have become unglued to the pages. Some of the newspaper clippings have yellowed. The edges of the clippings are torn. The post cards are in good condition. The hand writing on them is still dark and legible. A few of the photo post cards have begun to fade. The Highlander is in good condition. The ink and handwriting in The Highlander is dark and legible. Some of the genealogical research has faded and the pages have torn edges. The funeral books are in good condition. The covers and pages are in good condition and the handwriting is still dark and legible. Some of the genealogical papers have yellowed and faded. Some of the genealogical papers have torn and ripped. The writing on the genealogical papers is still dark and legible.
