This collection contains a large number of newsletters from the Milwood News, a weekly periodical supported by small businesses and civic organizations in the Milwood neighborhood of Kalamazoo, MI. This collection contains Numbers 1-45 of Volume 1, published between Thursday February 26, 1948 and December 30, 1948.

Biographical / Historical
The Milwood News was a weekly periodical sponsored by the, “Millwood Merchants whose advertisements it carries,” thus serving as a local newsletter informing residents of local events, and advertisement for local business owners. Along with advertisements, the newsletter carries announcements for local Scouting organizations, church activities, school events, and myriad announcements regarding the responsibilities of community members to maintain a certain level of decorum at home and in public. The publication was also associated with the Milwood Property Owners Association and local police and fire departments. The Milwood neighborhood extends from Miller Rd past I-94 (including the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport). The Milwood News is reflective of the interests of small communities (i.e., neighborhood associations) and business owners in Kalamazoo, MI, during 1948.

This collection is approximately .10 cu feet, and contains one folder. The newsletters appear to be in generally good condition, with very little fading of the ink or deterioration of the paper. With continued preservation and careful handling they should remain in good condition.
