Physical Description

The collection amounts to .50 cubic feet and is composed of five registers, 15 ¼"x10"x ¼" from the New Michigan Hotel located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The registers date from 1923 until 1928. Each of the pages of the registers is headed with the words, "The New Michigan Hotel." Under that are the statements, "Guests without baggage are required to pay in advance." "All moneys, jewelry, coats, valises and other valuables must be left at the office and checks received for them, otherwise the Proprietor will not be responsible for any loss." "W.A. Kinney, Proprietor Kalamazoo, Michigan." Pages have room for the date, name, residence, time, room number and then an unidentified column. In the first register there are the letters "H" and "N" in this column, later there is a notation if the room has been paid and how long the registered person would be staying. The dates are printed on slips of paper which are adhered to the pages. The registers are in fairly good condition although the back and front covers, made of cardboard, are worn along the edges. Some of them are bent and in one case, ripped. The writing inside for the most part was done in India ink. Some of the writing is smudged and there are marks in various pages from the ink. The writing is legible.
