Vanderbilt Family Photographs
Scope and Contents
The collection is composed of photographs of people related to and associated with the Henry John Vanderbilt family of Kalamazoo County from around 1865 to approximately 1930.
Biographical / Historical
John Henry Vanderbilt (1847-1930) lived in Cooper Township, Kalamazoo County with his family including his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He married Anna Cady, daughter of Edwin and Abbey Cady, from Portage Township in 1880 and they settled on a farm not far from her parents eventually having two sons, Edwin and William. The collection of photographs include images of them, other family members in addition to friends and neighbors of Edwin and William who both lived in the Vine neighborhood. There also is a photograph of the Cady house located at 2112 Vanderbilt in the City of Portage.

Language of Materials
The collection amounts to .25 cubic feet and is composed of a series of photographs almost all from the Henry John Vanderbilt family who lived in Kalamazoo County. They date from around 1865 to approximately 1930. There are a variety of photographs in this collection including carte de visites, cabinet cards, mounted photographs, postcards and snapshots. They are both sepia toned and black and white and are of various sizes. For the most part, they are in good condition although a few are faded. A large number have identifications.
These photographs were in the Regional History Collections with no note as to how they got there. The have been added to the P# box 85. The spreadsheet contains information about the individuals including their identifications and vital information.
