Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of twelve issues of The Perfect Home distributed by P. C. Schram Company Subdivides and Home Builders based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The issues range from July, 1937 through May 1938.

The contents of the magazine seem to be largely generic, providing different articles about house types and trends. The front cover showcases a Kalamazoo house, and the back cover contains localized ads. Various houses for sale depicted on the front include architectural styles such as New England Colonial, bungalow, and Chateau. The entire collection in is great condition.

Biographical / Historical

The P. C. Schram Company: Real Estate Brokers Subdividers and Home Builders was founded by Peter Schram ca. 1934. Peter Schram was born in the Netherlands in 1885 and moved to the U.S. in 1889. The P. C. Schram Company was founded ca. 1932 and was operated by Mr. Schram, with his wife Clara later serving as the vice president. Mr. and Mrs. Schram moved to Los Angeles California in the early to mid- 1950s, where Mr. Schram died in 1957. In 1962 Clara Schram filed for a certificate of dissolution, legally dissolving the company.

The Perfect Home occasionally lists addresses of the houses featured on the front cover. These include generalized locations like the July, 1937 issue including a feature located on East Highland Park Plat, and the August, 1937 issue located on a corner lot at East Main and Ashley Drive, or September, 1937 located in Upland Drive. Several later issues include the entire address such as January, 1938 which features the house located at 2422 E. Main Street and May, 1938 at 707 Dwillard Dr. Based off provided information it is likely that other locations are also located on the East Side of Kalamazoo.
