Scope and Contents
This collection is composed of a single journal from the Battle Creek Township Fire Department in Battle Creek Michigan. The journal covers from 1938-1941. Entries were made by various individual with information from the Fire Department. Journal entries include includes dates, times, address, and personnel. Some entries also include monetary loss, location or cause of the fire, status of the fire upon arrival, and hours worked.

Battle Creek Township Fire Department Bio
The Battle Creek Township Fire department was officially established in 1891. It operated independent from the city of Battle Creek until 1983 when the two merged.
Olin W. Barton Bio
Olin W. Barton, whose name is listed on the cover of the journal, joined the fire department in the late 1920s. He was promoted to the Chief of the fire department approximately 1936 and remained in his station until approximately 1941.

Physical Description
This collection is composed of a single journal occupying 0.05 cubic feet. The journal measures 7” by 4 ½”. In large letters on the cover B. C. TwP. Fire Depa’t. is written in faded black ink. The name O. W. Barton is signed in the bottom right hand corner, also in black ink. The cover appears to have been originally green and has considerable staining. The binding is fragile and the journal should be handled with care. The pages are yellowed and have graphite writing on them, some pages show black staining. Overall, the collection is in ok condition.
