The Thimble Club was a club formed in 1903 and consisted of only women. The records indicate that this was a social club that met monthly.

Physical Description

This collection is composed of 1.0 cubic feet material from the Thimble Club which spans from 1905-1960.The correspondence is in good condition, there is minimal damage and deterioration/tearing. The size of the items vary in size from letter to legal sized. The items are handwritten in blue and black ink and are all legible. The content of the correspondence are conversations between various members and other topics such as various events or meetings.

The newspaper clippings are taped to pages inside a spiral bound notebook. The notebook is in good condition, there is minimal damage and tearing of the pages and the cover of the notebook, there is slight staining on the cover of the notebook. There is a small title on the cover title “Thimble Club Clippings”. The vast majority of the notebook was not utilized (roughly only 10-15 pages are used). In total there are four clippings in the notebook: three clippings relate to funeral rights and a burial of former members of the Thimble Club, the fourth clipping relates to an individual who received a cane that indicates a loss of vision.

The photographs are in good condition, there is minimal fading and tearing. The size of the photographs are 3.5” x 3.5” and 8.25” x 6.5”. All of the photographs are black and white and all of the photographs are identified. The contents of the photographs appear to be members of the Thimble Club.

The meeting ledgers are in fair condition, there are six in total and only one of them is in bad condition. Five ledgers show little signs of damage and deterioration on the pages and the covers. The sixth ledger cover shows signs of damage on the cover, the cover is fraying and was separated from the pages entirely, the cover has been secured with book tape but still requires delicate care when handled. All ledgers are handwritten with blue and black ink as well as pencil, all ledgers are still legible. The size of the ledgers range from 6.75” x 8” to 7” x 12”. The date range of the material is 1905-1960 and the content of the ledgers are records of meeting minutes for the Thimble Club, each entry provided the location (typically Galesburg, Michigan), the date of the meeting, whose home the meeting was held, and what was discussed in the meeting.
