Biographical / Historical

At current moment there is not much known about the celebration, only the fact that the celebration was held on July 4, 1884 and July 4, 1891. The 1884 Program showed that there was a parade in the morning followed by afternoon events like “exercises at Bronson Park” music and various amusements. The program also stated that after the exercises at the Park that the audience and the committee will “lay the corner stone” for the New Court House in downtown Kalamazoo. The 1891 program showed that in the morning there was a parade, in the afternoon there was music, a bicycle race, sprinters race, and a “hose race” with prizes ranging from $4 to $75.
