This collection is composed of one daybook kept by Frank Green of Kalamazoo, Michigan from April 16, 1906 to December 8, 1906.

This ledger is filled with daily accounting for the bulk of 1906. Expenses accounted for include detailed entries such as Cigar, Ham, Butter, and rent, and broad categories including wife and kids and the amount spent on each.

Biographical / Historical

William Frank Green was born in Michigan on July 6, 1860 and died on September 5, 1939. He was married to Elva Prudence Brown on November 14, 1886. Frank worked as a stone mason. He rented several places in Kalamazoo with his wife and children before they purchased a home on Monroe St.

Physical Description

The collection amounts to .10 cubic feet and is composed of one ledger kept for the year 1906 from April 16th to December 8th. It measures 5.25”x8.75”x1” and is bound in black letter with the word “Ledger” written on the cover in silver script and the pages have red edges. There are 8 tabbed pages for A-Z indexing and the remaining are red and blue lined with page numbers in blue.

The ledger is 200 pages and most of them, minus the A-Z section, are filled. The front and back covers and spine are in excellent condition. The pages are still in excellent condition and the handwriting is easy to read. The text block does have some cracking at various points but none of the pages are loose from the sewn binding. None of the pages have tears.
