Creator

Biographical / Historical

The Pagan Players was a left-wing dramatic group based in Battle Creek, Michigan. It is not known when this dramatic group started, nor when it ended. Each show they put on consisted of anywhere from 3-5 short performances, each directed by a different group member with different actors, scenes and times. The only exception was Hay Fever, which was their first three act play which they performed in May of 1933 and had advertised in the Kalamazoo Gazette, and is the only performance which they seemed to advertise or put in the newspaper.

Physical Description

The collection amounts to nine different programs for the Pagan Players. Each Program is different visually, and some are on white paper, while others are on yellow or green, they have different fonts, cover photos, sizes, and illustrations. Most appear to be handwritten and hand drawn and then had copies made, except for the September 26, 1934 programs, which seem to have been entirely typed (except for the illustrations). There are three programs for a September 26, 1934 show, one for February 21, 1934, two for October 18, 1933, one from April 18, 1934, one from March, 1933, and one from May, 1933. In some of the programs each person is referred to as pagan, with the programs crediting people as “Pagan [name],” rather than just their first and last name.

All of the programs are faded, creased, and a little ripped, but they are still legible and in good enough condition to read.
