The collection is composed of one certificate dated June 10th, 1937. The recipient’s name is written in cursive, followed by confirmation of his completion of the course of study, then by six written signatures from the Superintendent and members of the Galesburg Board of Education.

Biographical / Historical

Ernest Edward Lamkin was born in 1919 and died in 2004 at the age of 85. He graduated high school and received his diploma at 18. He was in the army and achieved the rank of 1st lieutenant in the US army during World War II after being registered in 1940, when he was 21. He was married in 1939 to his wife, Esther Lamkin, who is now buried next to him in Tecumseh, Michigan after her death in 2011.

Abstract

This collection is composed of one high school diploma from Galesburg High School in Galesburg, Michigan, that was awarded to Edward Lamkin in 1937.

Physical Description

The diploma measures 10 ½ by 8 inches. The high school’s name is printed at the top in fancy lettering, with a black and white photograph of the school below it.

The paper is in good shape, its yellowish tint is either original or a product of its age; there are no tears or folds in it. There are a couple spots of discoloration along the edges, and a few spots near to but not obscuring any text. All writing is legible.
