The constitution first lists seven articles, each of which consist of different numbers of sections. Following these are listed the 18 rules of order, which are followed by the “by-laws, rules, and regulations” of the society, which are listed in 12 sections. According to this constitution, meetings were to be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. Only men of Dutch heritage between the ages of 18 to 45 who were deemed healthy by the Society’s physician(s), and who believed “in a Supreme Being” could be admitted as a member.

Members were admitted by a committee of 5 people elected by the President, who also had to sign off on the decision. Initiation fees ranged from $300 to $1200 in accordance with age (in ascending order). Membership provided access to a number of benefits, including $100 to be paid in funeral expenses in the case of death, or $75 for two weeks of sickness followed by 71.5 cents for each day of sickness after that.
