Carousel Ice Cream Parlor Cartons
Scope and Contents
The two cardboard boxes measure 5.5 inches by 12.5 inches and 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches. The larger box is meant for a quart of ice cream, while the other is for a pint of sherbet. Both boxes include assembly instructions, like which flaps to fold first, or how to open them. Both boxes also feature the parlor’s address and logo. While the ice cream carton is decorated only with red and white, the sherbet carton’s design features several colorful fruits... and a drawing of a street.

Biographical / Historical
Carousel Ice Cream was opened in 1952 by Dorothy and Henry Kibbey on West Main St. After Henry died suddenly in 1953, Dorothy took over the business as its owner and operator. Although Dorothy Kibbey closed the original business down in 1988 as she retired, the ice cream parlor lived on through different owners and businesses. In 1990, it was owned by the Osman family, and was located in the Summit Plaza Mall. In 1998, ownership was passed over to... Nina’s Café, known as Nina’s Café & Carousel Ice Cream. Carousel Ice Cream hasn’t been a part of the café’s title since 2003, with the café more known now for their all-day breakfast.

Abstract
The collection is composed of two cardboard ice cream and sherbet cartons from the Carousel Ice Cream Parlor in Kalamazoo.
Physical Description
The boxes have never been assembled, so they lie flat and show resistance to being folded into their proper shape. Overall, the collection is in good condition. The ice cream box’s edges are a bit browned, but with little other damage. The colors and ink have remained vibrant on both, and none of the flaps have been torn or ripped.
