Lacey-Webber Company Collection

 Collection
Identifier: RH-A-3413

Scope and Contents

The collection is composed of photographs and signs from the Lacey-Webber Company that was located in Kalamazoo between 1939 and 1947. The photographs show the products they made along shots of assembling them. Based on the Ward Morgan numbers and comparing them to the list of the negatives we have at the Archives, more than likely these photographs were taken in 1939. The photographs are mainly of workers assembling products, the products themselves and several individual head shots of employees. They show workers putting together company products, their dress and hairstyles, along with shots of the interior of the plant located at East Water Street. Ward Morgan took almost all of the photographs however the numbers do not appear of the WMU Archives list of Morgan negatives (0194 and 0205) but the number range puts these photographs in 1939. There is one photograph that was taken by J.D. Shiavone.

Physical Description

The collection amounts to .10 cubic feet and are composed of 39 black-and-white photographs ranging from 9”x7” to 4”x5” along with signs that are 8 ½”x 11” advertising company products. The photographs are in good condition however they are yellowed on the back from possibly some type of adhesive for a display. The signs which are 8 ½”x11” and 8 ½”x4 ½” look to be handwritten and give information on various Lacey-Webber products like the Freezgide, Bat-Lamps, Little David (insulated electrode holders) and Nancy Hanks (jack-stands). There also are several pages, 8 ½”x11” which appear to come from some type of catalog giving more information about the products. The signs and pages are in good condition although there appear to be some type of yellowing on one side which might have been some adhesive used for a display.
