McCarthy & Fisher

Biography

Fred Fisher (1875–1942) was a German-born American songwriter who founded the Fred Fischer Music Publishing Company in 1907. During World War I he changed his surname to Fisher to make it seem less Germanic. In about 1915 McCarthy & Fisher became the company name. Since catalog searches do not show any items after 1919, one must presume that the firm was bought by another company, possibly Leo Feist, in 1920. Fred Fisher was the co-writer of many standards including Whispering Grass and Your Feets too Big.
