Biography

Vandaliah Simms (nee Larkin) was the mother of Jacquelyn Vandaliah Simms. She was a graduate of Barber Scotia Junior College and Shaw University. She and Dr. Merze Tate were members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In a scrapbook of letters addressed to Merze Tate, Vandaliah signed her middle name "Vandaliah."

According to a marriage certififcation for her daughter (found in the North Carolina, U.S., Marriage Records, 1741-2011), her full name was Ida Vandaliah Simms (Larkin), born in North Carolina.

Scope and Contents An ivory-colored scrapbook containing letters from the Simm family to Merze Tate written between September 1942 to May 1950. Most letters were written by Ida Vandaliah (Larkin) Simms, an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority member with Merze Tate, concerning Ida's daughter Jacquelyn (born September 9, 1942).
