Jeremiah H. Cronin Store Ledger Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains one single account ledger book from J.H. Cronin Store of Marshall, Michigan between May 1, 1915 to July 26, 1915. This store was owned by Jeremiah Henry Cronin and was established in 1851 according to the Marshall directory of 1934. This ledger features all grocery sales accounts kept in chronological order. Every page in the ledger was full, and included the name of the customer and a list of their purchases below. This ledger provides a historical account of the daily life and supplies needed of those living in Marshall, Michigan in 1915.

Biographical / Historical
Jeremiah H. Cronin was born on August 14, 1873 in Calhoun County, Michigan. His parents, Jeremiah Cronin (1831-1889) and Susan Cronin (1839-1907), were also Dry Good Merchants. Jeremiah married Mary Louise on June 12, 1900. They had two daughters, Virginia Cronin, and Elizabeth Cronin, along with a son, James Cronin. Jeremiah Henry was also registered for WWI in 1917-1918.

Physical Description
This collection amounts to 0.05 cubic feet, is 12 inches in height and 5 inches in width. This ledger contains 250 pages, all of which have been written on. The cover is made up of card board, and woven with a faded, gray colored fabric and red corners that is tightly bound and reads, “Grocery Day Book 106.” All of the grocery sales accounted for in this book were written in pencil, resulting in smudging on some pages, however the writing is still legible.
The book is completely intact and shows some shelf wear, but overall is in good shape.
