Biographical / Historical

The Blossom Shop was on 303 South Burdick Street in Kalamazoo Michigan. The Blossom shop was owned by Alice Blossom. She and her husband acquired it in 1909, and her name is the name listed under the Blossom Shop in various directories. The Blossom Shop was primarily a millinery, which is to say the shop sold hats and other clothing and accessories. Likely the customers were mainly women. Many millinery’s of the era were owned and run by women. The location appears to have moved later on, and in the 1932 directory it has changed both locations and function; Alice Blossom is listed as a seller of “goods from China.” By 1935 the Alice Blossom no longer appears affiliated with any business. She died in 1936.
