Planner, 1885

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The box contains 17 planners beginning with 1885 and ending with 1924. Planners from the years 1892, 1893, 1897, 1898, and 1905 through 1923 are not included. The planners contain mostly notes on court cases and daily expenditures. Some contain loan information, addresses, Christmas shopping lists, and other miscellaneous notes. In 1903, Wilkes wrote many pages of journal entries detailing his trip to the United Kingdom with his wife Bertha from June to September of that year. The box also contains a folder of newspaper clippings from 1878 to 1880, including articles about a court case, articles about contemporary economic issues, an 1875 address from Ulysses S. Grant, and other small clippings. Another folder contains photocopies of these newspaper clippings, and a third folder contains genealogical research on Wilkes in the form of web pages and records printed from Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.
